The Women

I had an AMAZING weekend and after a long Monday, am wishing I could go back and do it all over again. Today seemed particularly stressful with the whole Wall Street drama and Mondays in general just aren't my favorite...but the weekend was perfect and exactly what I needed.

CJ was out of town with his Grandpa Georgia, Dad, and Uncle. The four of them went to the WildHorse Casino for some golfing and gambling. CJ says they had a great time and really enjoyed themselves...look for a post this week about their trip.

I had Friday off and had a great time relaxing and hanging out at the mall. I cleaned our very dirty bug and just had a perfect "me" day. It is not very often that I get to have a whole day to myself, so it was perfect.

During the evening, I went over to Jexamae's for a jewlery party, some yummy taco salad, and some excellent company. Jess is the sweetest friend ever and I was so happy to get to spend some relaxing girl time with her and her pals Friday night. Although I didn't buy any jewlery, I did enjoy trying some on and realized I probably need to "accessorize" more...just can't spend about $40 per jewlery piece when I buy clearance stuff at Target for $3. (I'm a cheapo)

On Saturday I slept in, relaxed some more, and then went to lunch at Goodwood BBQ with my Mom and little sister Becca. This was the first time just the three of us have ever gone out and it was fabulous. When my sister was a toddler (I was about 15), I used to dream of the three of us hanging out and enjoying each other's company when she got older. Now she is 17 and it seems it is finally time to have "girl time" with just the three of us. We all have the same sort of sense of humor and at one time during lunch, we were laughing so hard that the other Goodwood patrons were glaring at us. It was great!

After a great lunch, we caught a chick flick. And I can't tell you exactly why, but the entire afternoon was so relaxing for me. Well, that is it for now. Excuse the rambling and run on statements...it is about 11:30pm, way past my bedtime, I'm exhausted and must get some rest.

"F" is for Fam

We just had a great evening at Hyde Park with Grandpa Georgia and the Sweigart "Fam". We visited a little pizza place with outdoor seating and enjoyed all of the great dogs that were sitting outside with their owners. We got to see the cutest Springer Spaniel puppy and of course it is making me want another pup. Puppies are SO adorable, but Springer puppies are the best...and this one was so adorable and calm tempered.

Grandpa Georgia enjoyed a nice ice cold pink lemonade and the weather was perfect tonight.

This is a pic of our dinner table tonight. I sent Joseph to try to take an impromptu picture of the group. He was also the "refill" boy tonight and kept our diet cokes constantly filled :)

My attempt at trying to get a picture of Joseph & Theresa while walking ended up very blurry. Love the iphone, but it isn't the best camera in the world.

I LOVE this picture. Check out my "DL" (Dad-in-law). It looks like he is taking a GIANT leap forward.

And here we are heading into the Goody's old fashioned candy shop after dinner. I bought some super sour candies (Zotz), Grandpa Georgia commented about the candy being made of gold because it was so expensive and opted for the 5 for a quarter icky candies, DL bought some licorice allsorts (our favorite), and the kids got giant jawbreakers.

It was a fantastic evening with the fam, really laid back and relaxing. After nights like these I sit back and think I'm so lucky to be surrounded with such great family. We're so blessed to have both my immediate family and Craig's immediate family so close to us.

It's Good To Be A Bronco

Ok, I admit it...I think football is boring! CJ LOVES it, and I LOVE my nap time that usually accompanies game day. For me football just takes too many commercial breaks and is quite boring. I know that this is blasphemy for so many people, but I have to be honest.

But having said that, I have to say, these Boise State Broncos are wooing me with their fancy football wiles. A couple seasons ago I decided to actually stay awake for an entire game and witnessed one of the most exciting sports games ever...the Fiesta bowl. My husband, Father-in-law, and I were jumping around cheering in the living room as they won that game against all odds...and with some great tricks! At that moment, I began to realize why people love football and I've been slowly coming around the past couple of years since.

Today's game reminded me of how proud I am to be a BSU grad. Once again CJ, my Father-in-law, and this time my Grandpa-in-law were loudly cheering the Broncos to victory from our living room. What an amazing game, and again they proved that they are to be taken seriously. I had so much fun with my fam as we watched another great BSU victory. I can't wait to see what they have in store for the rest of the season and had such an amazing time enjoying a great game with my football lovin family.

But, I can't promise that I won't be napping tomorrow during the Seahawks game :)

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Ahoy! Today is national "Talk Like a Pirate" day and we have one pirate in the office who gets quite excited about this day every year. Greg, or "Captain Plankard" is one of my coworkers and friends. He is great to work with and is one of the smartest Java programmers ever. But one day a year, he turns pirate and I was happy to be able to witness it this year. He hid his "booty" all over the office and dressed in the full pirate garb.

This morning I received a twitter message from him on my cell phone reminding me of the pirate day, so I was able to grab CJ's "I've got my eye on you" pirate t-shirt out of the closet and put it on. Last summer when we found this t-shirt on the clearance shelf I had begged him not to buy it. I guess he thought it was cool in an "ironic t-shirt" sort of way, and because he can't refuse a bargain, he bought it against my better judgement. Well today I was glad that he did because I was able to have a little fun and wear it to work.

By the way....the weird expression in that second picture is me realizing that Greg's sword WASN'T plastic. So what you're seeing in this picture is me telling him to "Get that THING away from me" :)

It's been a fun Friday...argh!

Fall Fun

Although its a little too warm still, the weather has been beautiful and we've been having such a nice early Fall this year. It's been quite a while since we've hung out with CJ's Mom and Dad and we got lots of time to spend with them this weekend. Friday night we went over and watched some episodes of the "dog whisperer". We saw a cool episode about how to stop some doggie neurotic behaviors and Bachelor is in desperate need of that, so we got some great tips.

On Saturday we woke up, got some breakfast and relaxed around the house. Then we went out to Burlington Coat Factory to shop for some great deals on shoes. CJ is in need of more tennis shoes so we thought we would check it out. The store is in absolute shambles right now. I think they are remodeling, but it was stinky on the inside and extremely unorganized. As far as I could tell, there were absolutely no bargains, so it was a very unsuccessful trip. After shopping we headed over to watch Indiana Jones at the discount theater. The movie was great but I ended up sleeping about partially through it. After the movie I met Michelle Tucker for the Hyde Park Street Fair. The fair was just ok, lots of crafty booths and tarrot card reading, but nothing that enticed me enough to buy. It was a little warm outside and a bit crowded, so we ended up going out to dinner soon after. We had a great dinner and it was nice to be able to spend some time with Michelle. Michelle is a friend from work who recently moved here from our Chicago office. I've worked with her quite a bit on projects, but have had very little time with her in person until now. It is great to have her here now and I'm looking forward to spending lots of time getting to know her.

Sunday so far has been all about football. We're currently sitting with our laptops browsing the web and watching some football games with Craig Sr. I'm about 20 minutes away from a gigantic Sunday afternoon nap and Bachelor is running out in the yard having a great time with the other doggies. It's been a great weekend, lots of relaxing and fun with family.

Weekend Highlights

Here are the highlights from the Sweigart's weekend:

  • Took Bachelor to the dog park to visit all of the doggies.

  • Went to the Library! (the exclamation point isn't a typo, this is what the Boise Library has on their sign....love that a place promoting literacy is misusing punctuation) and picked up a big stack of books and magazines to read over the weekend.

  • Read an inspiring book on fitness and read a couple magazines.

  • Caught up on Jay Leno episodes online.

  • Had breakfast with my little sister Becca at a little cottage in Meridian - ate way too much and wondered how my inspiring fitness book had let me down when it came to actually implementing its advice.

  • Hung around the house and did very little if any chores.

  • Went to Mai Thai restaurant for dinner with a group of girls. Had some amazing Garlic Shrimp and shared lots of giggles and fun. This was one of the best meals I have had in a long time - definitely a fan of Thai food.

  • Went dancing for the first time in about 10 years and loved every minute of it. My moves are still very 90's - but that was ok and it was fun to let loose with some really great ladies.

  • Relaxed and slept in way too late.

  • Went to a sports pub with Ciege to watch the Seahawks game. Seahawks lost, but we had a good time and shared lots of laughs and cuddles as we shared a booth so we could both see the game on the TV.

  • Battled the evil crowds at Walmart (why do I still shop here?). As I was standing in line looking down at my cart, I realized that the fitness book wasn't nearly as inspiring as I had thought on Friday. :)

Dancing Queen

Monday evening I had such a great time with a bunch of friends for a night of fun at "Mamma Mia". My good friend Andrea (pictured left) organized the whole thing and we had about 10 ladies there. We pretty much had the theater to ourselves, except for another small group of ladies. And Andrea hopped up and started dancing during this movie along with two other crazy girls. It was so much fun to see them let loose and have a great time. My favorite part was the time we spent outside the theater afterwards chatting. My life is pretty much surrounded with males...I work with mostly men, my dog is male, married to one, so when I get some girl time it is really refreshing. It was great!
